Dr. Mann has an extensive background in teaching, research, and scientific enterprise.
He received his BS degree in chemistry from Manhattan College and a PhD from the University of Iowa in 1967. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Iowa and Duke University until 1970 and then moved on to teaching and chairmanship assignments at the University of Minnesota and the Mayo Clinic in the fields of Biochemistry and Medicine. In 1984 he joined the Dept. of Biochemistry, as chair, at the University of Vermont.
After stepping down in 2005 he moved his research program to the UVM South Park Colchester Research Facility. The results of Dr. Mann's blood research activity have led to extensive publications and the development of 12 patents. He has been awarded numerous prizes and recognition awards and has obtained sizable research funding grants as well.
Dr. Mann has served in multiple volunteer roles as President or Chairman in a number of professional and scientific organizations at the national and international level.
In 1987 he and colleagues from UVM founded Hæmotologic Technologies in Essex Junction. The company employs 25 scientists and serves the academic community and biopharmaceutical industry with materials and technologies relevant to blood research and development.
