Jay K. Thayer is the Vice President of Operations for Entergy Nuclear. Previously, he served as the site vice president of Vermont Yankee, assuming that position in July 2002 during the sale of the plant to Entergy. As site vice president, he was responsible for all aspects of nuclear safety, plant operation, and economic performance for the 640 megawatt nuclear power plant. During his tenure, Entergy Vermont Yankee accomplished a 20% power uprate, initiated a dry fuel storage campaign, and filed the 20 year license renewal application.
Most recently, Mr. Thayer has returned to Vermont from Washington, DC, where he served, on loan from Entergy, as a Vice President of the Nuclear Energy Institute helping the industry pursue the regulatory framework for new nuclear plants in the US.
Thayer has more than 35 years of experience in all aspects of nuclear power generation including design, licensing, operations, decommissioning and spent fuel management.
Thayer is a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and holds Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Nuclear Engineering.
